This is a tale of two Kentucky Derby glasses. One of them is mass produced overseas for a retail giant. You can find scores of them in a pop-up cardboard display box at the Middletown Walmart.
The other Kentucky Derby glass is handmade by a local artisan, Jaime Bowling. Along with her husband, Bobby, they can often be found selling their work at art fairs around Louisville. They both have full-time jobs and are raising three children, but they spend evenings and weekends burning the midnight oil on their craft business. You see, Jaime was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago and their craft business helps cover her medical expenses.
There are things we buy at Walmart, Target and other big box retailers, but the Kentucky Derby is a local tradition. Let's support our own community by purchasing our Derby party supplies, hats, accessories and decorations at local businesses.
PB&J Stuff made by Bobby and Jaime Bowling can be found year-round at Treehouse Artisans & Merchants in Middletown.
